Closet Muse

I was recently featured on Lovethymuse by the lovely Heidy who came to take pictures of my temporary home while in Perth. Check it out in full here.

While I lived in Perth for the past six months I stayed in several homes, but living alone in Mt Lawley suited me well. I was fortunate to have a nice spot which I could fill with fresh flowers, have friends over at any time, paint or draw at my leisure and read peacefully. I was a short walk up to Beaufort Street to grab coffee or groceries, (and books!) to Hyde Park to lie in the grass or run, and to walk into the city. Although doing this in heels meant blisters by the time I got into Northbridge. I had lived in this area while at WAAPA, and I love this spot, if you are heading to Perth, ensure you stay around here. Incidentally if I move back again for a bit... well, who knows?

 Now that I am here in Adelaide I have rediscovered the shoes and jackets I had left behind, I got so sick of wearing the same pairs. I am glad I had a few that were versatile to keep me going though.

Asking me what were my favourite things, Heidy photographed a few bits and pieces of colourful treasures, books, and more. 

She also got me to climb up on the roof.

I love to climb and be up high, and the view into the city was stunning, but I must admit I did not have enough cups of tea up here. I did scare the neighbours who looked up shocked and bewildered, but calmed down once they saw my cup. The calming powers of tea huh? My Mum actually gave me that cup to take to Perth five years ago, and by a twist of fate, I ended up renting from people who had inherited my stuff when I left the first time. When I first moved in I found my chair, hat stand, mugs, wine glasses, and more. Needless to say, this little 'Burrow' felt like home.

Day Three of the Black Out Challenge

Today I went for a dress, noticing I tend to do a lot of t-shirts tucked into shorts and skirts.

Teamed with a cream belt, this peaches and cream fitted dress is feminine and comfortable.

The Gorman orange pumps give it a little kick.

I think this look transports me back to the Italian Southern Coastline.
I loved the winding cliffside roads, breathtaking views of the ocean and towns, villas, and gardens.
Stopping in Ravello to cool off with rose and lavender gelato, sparkling water and stuffed zuccini flowers is heaven.

Somehow the driveway, with its vine covered walls, wooden gate feel like I am in the Mediterranean.
Later I had to throw on a vintage pale denim jacket over this as the weather changed and a storm blew in.
 A fitted denim vintage jacket, is so great to throw over almost anything and are perfect to travel with.

Colour Meanings:
Day Three

Orange:
Is the colour of creativity. It is powerful, vitality, endurance, thoughtful, and curiosity.
If you are feeling a little drab or down, this is an explosive colour to add a little excitement.
It may even turn you into a bit of an exhibitionist.



Peach:
Is really a muted orange tone. So it is like a sweeter, muted, toned down version of the orange meanings.

Post Designer Capsule #2

A quick outfit post before I run back out the door for another day at PFF. Pictures by Laura.

Last nights WA Designer Collections and Capsule #2 were AMAZING! I am IN LOVE with Garth Cook (he even has a beard... HOT!) and will be ordering at least four looks from last night! 

The other highlight was PeppermintMilk. Gosh Maevana Mitchell is a gem. She put together such a beautiful collection, complete with a wedding dress finale. Jaw dropping. 

I have lots to share with you, but I have to get going for another day. 

I get how an iPad is useful, designed for Fashion weeks. Yup. xx

The Girl From Ipanema

Taylor Swift? No, but I'd like to think I wear it just as well! 

The second shoot I had with the lovely Benjamin from Kolonel Mustard. 

This dress is soooo fun to wear, it's made for dancing! I was lucky to snap one up early, before Taylor Swift was pictured wearing it and it quickly sold out. Luckily the team at Gorman made a few more, so it is still available! 

 So next weekend I am moving to Perth for a little while, if any bloggers want to catch up for coffee and or shoot I would love, love, love to meet you! The blogging women of Perth are so lovely and supportive of one another, I am looking forward to meeting you all properly. So pumped for Perth Fashion Festival!!!

Kolonel Mustard Shoot Feat Gorman Ipanema Boots

Last week Benjamin from KolonelMustard shot some photos for me after a long brunch. Benjamin is known for his sharp suited style blog. Shooting both photos and moving image videos, Benjamin encourages men to be themselves, wear what they love, and not to be afraid to suit up anytime. I personally love his shoe collection, and was amazed by this beautiful camera. My gosh I gotta get onto it and buy a real camera!

While we took these shots, Benjamin attempted to yell out to me, as behind me someone was loudly using a blow-vac to clean the grandstand. I could not stop laughing! I think I was almost over compensating by trying not to laugh in some of these shots. It was quite a funny sight.

I am sooooo in love with these new Ipanema Boots from Gorman. A few weeks ago my best friend and I went in to Gorman to stock up on their amazing wool jumpers in the winter sale, (I wear them everyday they are so warm!) and spotted the Spring Summer Lookbook. Both massive fans of the Gorman boots, we were so excited to see these embroidered Ipanema Boots. I know for sure these will sell out super fast, so I could not leave without them. Perth, Flannel, Leather, Lace and Neon

 

When I first moved over to Perth, I hated it. I knew NO ONE, and I was not convinced it was the right decision. Considering it to be so isolated, I thought it was a leap in the wrong direction. I have come to realize that sometimes, the things I dismiss easily are the things which prove themselves to me the most. (Let the Elizabeth Bennett comparisons begin again).

My own prejudice.
I was very wrong.

There is something so endearing about Perth, and WA. An odd mix of cultures; I have certainly observed that people 'find' themselves there, drawn to some new promise. Drawn West.

I found myself being described to people as "From over East" so often, which, having grown up in South Australia, seemed a little wrong to me, but essentially, from Perth, everything is East. For the most part, young Adelaide-ians move to Melbourne, and so on, and relocating back, seems, well, weird. Perth doesn't even seem to have the same Gatsbian car crash rush back West, which I expected. There is enough going on there, who needs to 'Head East'?

Over the years I met the loveliest and liveliest people, with huge hearts. I discovered amazing food, coffee, wine, sun, beaches, trees, designers, music and places which feel, even for a little while, like home. To say when I visited last weekend I had a wonderful time, is an understatement. I love and miss my friends, who after three years, for 18 hours a day in a small room, saw the best and worst of each other. We all fell further than we knew we could, picked each other back up again and continued to wherever we are headed now. They continue to inspire me, and encourage me to push myself further. I am forever great-full for the times we spent together and I wouldn't trade it, when all is said and done.

The days run away so quickly, I know I will be drawn West again soon.

She's Pretty Busy!

Hello. So, you start to notice when I am working on Design gigs- it means I have NO time to blog anything! Right now I am happily in the thick of things, working on a festival which I am very excited about. I have met the most lovely people and have seen some pretty incredible things. I have recently been fortunate enough to spend time working in the amazing studio of Australia's most popular Visual Artist. I will tell you more about it all later on. For now, am all a hush. The life of a somewhat eccentric artist is a very exciting one indeed.

Currently loving: 

Am in absolute awe over the Alice McCall collection just shown at this weeks MBFWA, oh I am going to have to pick carefully! Very excitedly following the coverage of the shows and of course, the style going on.

My new Tom Ford glasses! They are sooo fun! And I can see! (I am seriously blind btw! Love the motto "Guys should make passes at girls who wear glasses!")


Some really amazing Zimmermann studded leather boots I picked up for winter- but they are really short term standing babies only, that is some serious angling of the foot heel!

I just saw Taylor Swift pictured wearing my favorite Gorman dress! She has taste! I am gonna say she wore it as well as me! ;) I am wearing it in the first pic which was taken from the Adelaide Cabaret Festival Launch pictures, (I didn't take any of my own either time I wore that dress, and no full shot ones!) Also pictured with the gorgeous Kate. 

Offspring Season Three. Still the best thing ever. With New Girl running in a well earned second place.

I am currently obsessed with vintage Moschino Cheap and Chic. Apparently can not get enough. I hope to share pics with you all soon!
