Lover Dress, Cheap Monday Jumper, Asos Fedora, Seed Heritage Sacha Boots, 4th and Bleeker for Billabong Clutch.

When Mario asked me what my story behind shooting this outfit post was, I thought I would share with you one of my favourite Perth locations. So, above is a morning spent wandering around Mount Lawley. I would say a typical morning, but to be honest, there isn't ever really much in my life that I would call largely 'typical'. At least the places we went to are regular hangouts. Given more time I could really go further into depth with the hot spots in Mount Lawley, but given we had a little over an hour, this is just a taste. In 2007 when I flew to Perth for the first time, there was an article in the Qantas inflight magazine about Mount Lawley, an area North of the Perth CBD, with a beautiful parklands, a shopping strip featuring beautiful cafes and shops in Art Deco buildings, a theatre, all within walking distance of WAAPA (where I was due to be studying).
To say that this felt like a sign, while corny, is true. I think I knew from that moment that this area would soon become one of my favourite places.

I cannot walk down Beaufort Street without running into someone I know, who also generally happens to work in the Arts or Fashion. It is guaranteed to have the best coffee in town (via Cantina -whom also made the kinda amazing Cinnamon Brioche Doughnut I am chomping through above) and a host of cool places to wander around in. For me Planet Books is the best bookstore I know, I have bought shelves of very heavy but beautiful art, fashion, design and photography books, as well as most recently a host of David Sedaris novels.
With an adjoining cafe, record, movie and clothing stores, Planet is the best one stop shop to spend all of your money. Ahem, I mean, buy people presents.

You will have seen me (if you have been following for a while) in all of these clothing items, except perhaps these suede thigh high boots. I had been eying off a Philip Lim pair last year, but, not wanting to part with in excess of $700 online, waited and searched for a more affordable alternative which I could try on in real time. In the past few months the new season shoe collections have been released, there are a lot of thigh high options on the market. I have spotted a heap that all look pretty good, but for me, as a lover of black suede, these from Seed Heritage were perfect.

Valentine's Day in Lover

I thought since I am seriously in love with an amazing man, I should do a little 'Valentine's Day' special post. Now, I will point out that, actually neither he nor I really like Valentine's Day and how over the top every store and some people get about it. However, we both took the day off mainly to avoid seeing people going crazy on the day, and save our sarcasm-o-meters going into overdrive. The plan is to head out for a drive, pack a picnic lunch and probably catch a Fringe show in the evening. So in reality during the day I will dress for walking around, not in a lace dress, but plan to slip into something like this beautiful Lover dress at night.
If you have read this blog for a while you will have noticed I have a thing for Lover. I am slowly collecting pieces as much as I can- the prices are super steep, but the dresses (particularly the lace ones) are so dreamy, I cave every now and again. One day, to get my hands on one of the white lace dresses… le sigh. Anyway, this year I decided to go back to the valentine's classics, black, white and red. I have no idea where I got these heels, I bought them sometime while sourcing costumes for a show somewhere between Melbourne and Adelaide. I do like that they are an exception to the black, white and neutrals for shoes rule. Just every now and again it is nice to mix things up. If you do plan to celebrate Valentine's Day, what will you be doing and wearing? I hope you have fun with it, sorry if this post made you cringe. :)

Two Ways To Wear: Spots (Part Two)

Sportsgirl Blouse, Lack Of Color Hat, Lover Skirt, Windsor Smith Gillie Heels, Michael Kors Watch

This time around I paired my spotted wrap top with a mid-length pleated skirt for a feminine and elegant look (which is also pretty fun to swoosh around in). While I feel like this look is something I would wear happily wandering up to the corner of the Boulevard Saint-Germain and the Rue St. Benoit for a coffee at Cafe de Flore, I can swap Paris for Perth and dream, right? With a beautiful view of the river and the city, surrounded by green lawns and gardens, it is not so tough.

You have seen me in this skirt before, I love it, the length is longer than my 'normal' choice, but it feels a little different and ladylike. I have also spotted a bunch of stylish women in street style photos from Paris Fashion Week in similar long skirts, so it's nice to know I am not far off the mark. Thinking about it I should probably do a little fashion week street style inspiration post. I know those photos are everywhere, but, I never get tired of looking at them. I own a few hats, you can see I love them. No surprises from a Millinery graduate! The price and quality of the Lack of Color hats is really impressive, and the owners are lovely. Oh, I forgot to say last time that this shirt also comes in a really beautiful check print, I must admit I was sad that the store I went to had sold out of my size.
By the way, in case you missed it, here is Part One of my Two Ways To Wear: Spots post.

Laces and Places

 photo Lace-Capitals_zpsbbd1e638.jpg
Lover Dress, Simone Perele Bralet, Jewellery by Mania Mania and Kailis Pearls.

New Laces and some of my fave places.
I recently found out I had been wearing completely the wrong bra size, and after a lot of complaining about how painful they were getting I finally went for a fitting happily resulting in this pretty lace bralet. More on that soon, but for now, some pretty laces and dream locations. I have been to most of these, but am keen to head to the others asap. xx

When asked which is my favourite dress in my closet, you can see why this one always wins. Originally bought for the opening night of the 2012 Cabaret Festival, I have since worn this dress a few times, but have never really had it photographed. When approached by Stylight to share my take on #BLACK fashion, I knew it was about time I shot this. Fitted French lace is one of those must wear at least once things. I guess a lot of women do this for their weddings. I haven't made it in that direction as yet, so why wait?

As you can see, I have recently paid a visit to the hairdresser. I went to see James at the Me. Style lounge in Claremont Quarter, the cool diffusion salon of WA's Maurice Meade. As I hadn't cut or coloured my hair in years, it needed a little love and a refresh. James knew exactly what I was after and did a marvellous job. While I waited Laura kindly painted my nails a bright punch of (somewhat festive) red. I have to say I was really happy with the visit, the space is cool, elegant and a little bit edgy, the staff were friendly, had some interesting stories to share, and ultimately did a great job. The price for all of their work was very reasonable, and I left happy (with a notable bounce in my hair and step). What do you think?

Today I went sun-baking for a walk in a sundress in winter.
Gotta love Perth, the faux winter Saturdays are warm, sunny and glorious. I finally got to wear this Lover dress which has hung brightly in my wardrobe for months. Cobalt blue and bright.
Happy days. PS I will shoot these awesome shoes soon- when I have someone around to shoot for me!

Happiness is a dress you can throw on and feel completely comfortable in. I have always loved that a dress can become an outfit, in so many different ways- change up the shoes, the jacket, pull back your hair- it just sorts itself out. I bought the skirt version of this Lover dress (you may have seen it in this post here) but when I found the dress on sale I knew I'd rather swap. So I did.

These photos from last Saturday were shot at that golden hour as the sun begins to dip, by Heidy after the Times Square Blogger Event. I had never known that there was a rooftop car park above the square, but it was the perfect photo spot (also two hours free parking).
As I write this a week later, it is pouring with rain, and I can not help but think- how was it so warm mid-winter a week ago?
PS. these heels are awesome, and are on sale down to $37!
