Christmas Gift Guide

It is THAT time of year again… Christmas, parties, fun times and the stress of gift buying. 

Presents can be weird and uncomfortable (in my opinion) most of the time, but they do not have to be. If you are buying gifts, here are my picks for men, women and the home. I have had a look for decent items that people will use, love and be grateful for. I am NOT a fan of giving or receiving gifts that you know you will never use, I hate that someone bought them, spent time thinking about or even thought you may like them. So my plan is to stick to the following categories… 

For Her:

Beauty 

Perfume (a small bottle of a really good Parfum, preferably a classic scent that will not date/ be too strong. My personal fave's are by Chanel, Tom Ford, Narciso Rodriguez, and Gucci)

Hand Cream (I love the Kora Organics Daily Hand Cream- on sale packaged with the foot balm here) 

Body Wash/ Body Lotion (again Kora Organics are packaging these on sale here)

Soy Candles (I am loving the Ecoya Caramelised Plum Pudding, Woodwick Biscotti -these crackle like a fire-) perfect for your days at home. 

Accessories

Michael Kors Watch (simple, elegant, mannish and versatile)

Mania Mania Earrings 

Leather Coin Purse (these things are super handy, anyone carrying a clutch needs a heap of coin purse options to carry cards, cash, keys, lip balm, hair pins etc. I love this star one by Comme Des Garcons)

Leather Converse (a staple, to be worn until they fall apart- this one also works for guys)

Ancient Greek Sandals (the perfect metallic leather summer shoes)

Equipment silk shirts (number one on my wish list! soft, breezy, versatile and beautiful)

Finally as I am in the market for a car… this (below) is on top of my wish list (in life). Damn it if I can not find myself a nice big old black pick up truck in WA. :( In the mean time I will dream about the day I find myself a 70s GMC Roper. Le sigh.

Spring 2013 My Take

The things I am and will keep wearing this Spring. 

Long shorts, round glasses, stappy sandals, and blocky jumpers... 

Feeling drawn to wide legs, high waist trousers and high waist longline pencil skirts, stripes, monochrome polkadots, a lot of denim/ chambray shirting, thigh high leather black boots (These 3.1 Philip Lim's should I do it?) pearls, a tiny bit of animal print and shoulder bags... with a quilted or studded touch (but minimal is best!).

Colours: red, cobalt, cream, black, white, pale blue, and a hint of hot pink, bright yellow or emerald green when you are feeling rock and roll. 

Not too crazy on the check, layered up with basics like denim or neutrals, jumpers- still a must for those brisk mornings/ evenings or the slightly too windy beach walks... a red lip is always the best way to wake up... after coffee.

Autumn Winter 13

This is what is on my list for Autumn/ Winter 2013... so far. 

The palette is made up of black, white, grey, blue, gold and red. 

Details include a little beading, leather, embroidery, sequin, graphic prints, statement jumpers, a bomber jacket, simple coat or trench, ankle boots, gold cuff, clutch or carry all.
In winter I can so easily just wear black, but the pops of colour, the dark red, or green make it feel less gothic or moody. This year I will aim not to dress solely in black.

The Ethos, a new online accessories store based in Perth, are stocking a beautiful range, including beautiful Rachel Zoe totes and clutches to lust after. Actually, they seem to be selling out so fast, I am assuming they are finding it tricky to keep them in stock.
The Ethos also stock designers such as Shakuhachi, House of Harlow, Wildfox, LifewithBird, Sol Sana, Vintage Princess, local label Three Anjewels and more. Not only are the pieces classic, elegant and beautiful, they are staples to add to any wardrobe. I can never have enough clutch bags, they are just so easy, not unlike the trusty pencil cases we all carried for years growing up, you can make your life fit into them- only if for one night at a time. The beaded detail of this Shakuhachi clutch is stunning.

I am in love with the perfected understated elegance of this Rachel Zoe Morrison Tote bag, which comes in a black or beige in matte or patent leather. For some reason I have never had a black handbag, and yet I wear so many black shoes, hats etc. I can see this as being the perfect new camera bag, which would mean I no longer have the excuse that my bag was too small to carry my camera along.

Other noteworthy pieces I have come across of late include these fun sweaters, with a slightly unexpected graphics (I love that the teeth in the lips sweater have a slight gap). Perhaps the 80's child in me is why I love a bangle or cuff, this Wildfox one is simple, but packs a kick. 

This gorgeous blue Carven flip skirt is so fun. It feels a little flirty and girly without being too cutesy or sweet. The cut does hug against curves, and I think is balanced out with a jumper or bomber particularly as the weather gets cooler. The graphic print of this long sleeved Sportmax tee is so pretty. I love wearing blue and white together, as much as I do gold and black. I have also noticed that I am obsessed with all things Sportmax; they even appear to be more desirable than Acne.
Ankle boots, thick strappy heels, simple glasses and detailed jeans are all just essential.

Mad March

Party Season Collage

It is that time again. This past week has been full of fun festive parties, launches and catch ups. 

More on those to come- sneak peaks on my instagram and Tumblr feeds. 

Before I skip out to a work party, I thought I'd share a little December party season collage. 

It's pretty well sequins, brocade, purples, yellows, pinks, silvers, golds, sparkles, pops of colour, black leather, denim hints, a little white and a touch of charm. 

The main thing for this time of year is to have fun but also to be comfortable, which means if you wanna dress casual, do it, and be confident. 

The pressure of finding the right outfit for each party can waste time and money, so if you have a lot on, feel free to mix and match, dress up or down, just play, and be happy.

Throw on a bold lip and troubles melt away.  

Party season must do's: 

Maintain charm, wit and have fun without making a mess! 

Wear sequins and embellishments, it's Christmas, why not?

Party season must don't s: 

Do not over drink, dress, eat, analyze, speak out of turn, be overly late or post up party pics and tag people without asking first!!

Leave the house looking like a Christmas Tree.

Spring Collage 2012

Some how a little bit sporty. 

Well, I had to buy training gear recently, so I had been scoping out what I wanted, which was basically everything in grey, black and white, with a hint of blue of course. 

With a pinch of gold metallics. Why not huh?

My inspirations seem to be coming via 90's Buffy and the grunge scene. 

I'd had 'Black cap' on my list for so long, I did a double take when I actually found one. Happy!

Loving black leather skirts, shorts, and boots as always, we shall see how long I can get away with them before it heats up too much.

July Collage

Some of the things I am wearing, loving and channeling at the moment. I love winter, layering up, coats, scarves, hats, woolens. But at the same time, I am looking forward to the sun of Spring. A lot! Hence this collage is a bit of a seasonal mash up. xx Nell.
