Last night I attended the first of the Urban Couture Designer Runway shows for 2014. With guest festival ambassador Samantha Harris walking the runway, the brief and colourful program delivered a fun, beachside show. Actually, beachside is the wrong term, 'beach' is more to the point, with the runway on the sand and perfectly timed with a typical Perth sunset.
After a Q and A session with Samantha, a few photos (pictured here wearing a dress by Natalie Rolt with Urban Couture Featured Milliner Debbie Kelly and Photographer Carlos Arevalo) and pre-drinks at the Sorrento Surf Life Saving Club, guests slipped off their heels and made their way to the beach to grab a seat.

Rolling up in a beach buggy, the natural beauty Samantha opened the show, walking in Cenote Swimwear. Showing their first collection, inspired by recent travels and cut with cheeky Brazilian styles, Cenote are exciting newcomers to the Perth Swimwear family. Mens swimwear label 2Wink featured, complimenting the daring female swim cuts. (As Mario was shooting for me, I told him it was okay not to shoot the male models, so I will leave that up to your imagination.) :)
Collections from Natalie Rolt and Little Dove completed the short but cheerful runway, again led by Samantha.

As the show ended guests were invited to join the models in the surf for a little post runway sunset shoot, perfectly capturing the fun and frivolity of a great evening spent admiring the stunning Perth coast. Cameras flashed as the girls posed for the small army of photographers, politely asking the designers if it were okay for them to run into the water.
With more of the Urban Couture program coming next week, it is not too late to check out the exhibitions and runway shows supporting local talent, with all events being free and open to the public. Find the full program here.

Thousands of people, one long street, vendors and stall holders, retailers, a mobile catwalk, racks of clothes, and 38 Degree weather. The 2013 Beaufort Street festival was a big long day.
I somehow had to MC the Wearable Art Runway- not something I did that well- picture me, a clipboard with 10 pages to read, a mic with about 20 meters of cord to hold while speaking and turning said pages. The girls from Pierrot's kindly did my hair- but there wasn't enough time for makeup, so I kept my sunglasses on and borrowed a top off the rack to be worn later so that I looked at least a little less like a walk in off the street. Anyone who had to witness my unpracticed 'live reading' probably spent that ten minutes cringing, and possibly trying to decipher what I was actually saying- anything I didn't know how to pronounce I just mumbled (meh). But hey, life is about putting yourself out there, right?
I took a lot of photos from the pop-up fashion shows, this is from catwalk #1 featuring clothes from Department and Steph Audino.
More to come including some backstage images.

Monday night I found myself unexpectedly attending the Central Tafe Graduates show, having finished up with our fittings for the Beaufort Street Festival Fundraiser early. I had attended the show last year, (see my coverage here) and knew to expect interesting textiles, concepts and silhouettes. This year metallic textiles, grey marle and monochromatic lace touches caught my eye (when do they not?).
The above images are just a highlight of what I shot, head over to the Facebook album for more here

Congratulations to the 2013 graduates, Sam Balacombe, Marieke Bruins, Christina Chortis, Rose Church, Alana Corr, Kiri Cox, Ella De Thierry, Nina Grabic, Holly Maclean, Erin Mai, Ayeisha Mcleod, Susan Phan, Jordan Phethean-Hardy, Karina Pontre and Jessica Wang.

Earlier this week I attended a launch at Times Square Claremont of the Spring Summer collections now in store at Sana, Betty Tran, Poppy Lissiman, Jomay Cao, Ruth Tarvydas, Leona Edmiston and more.
The event was certainly interesting, with beautiful food care of Lemongrass Thai and a signature floral 'White Lady' cocktail care of Cocktail Gastronomy. I assume due to the event being a sell out, the seating ran low-- I didn't love sitting on the pavement in heels for that long...
The last dress pictured was my favourite- no surprises there huh? Pretty sure that's Kate Sylvester from Sana.
The social pic I regrammed on Instagram of Sharon and I was probably my favourite of the night, you'll have to take a look! ;)

This year the Fashion Central Runway at the Perth Fashion Festival was pumping with several shows each day. I made it to quite a number of these, and have tried to space out my coverage- so as to not hit you up with runway images all at once. One of the most colourful shows was a double sharing from Amore & Sorvete and Poppy Lissiman.

Amore & Sorvete by Bridgette Gale, is one of WA's biggest swimwear labels. Stocked internationally on Shopbop, ASOS and Urban Outfitters and locally with a flagship store on Glyde Street in Mosman Park, it is evident that Bridgette has built a strong following in a short time. Currently conquering the US market, the El Mar SS13/ 14 Collection, shown at PFF was fresh from the Miami Swim Fashion Week.

The Mosman Park store, a bright, resort like affair, also stocks Bridgette's organic body care range.
El Mar (Spanish for 'sea') is aptly named for a collection inspired by a recent trip to South America. Bold colours and cheeky Brazilian bikini lines, embrace a bright collection ready for the summer ahead.

Poppy Lissiman Addition located in Times Square Claremont, is an eclectic store stocking Emma Mulholland, Three Floor, L'America and more. Created by the colourful Poppy Lissiman, the PFF runway showcased Spring Break collections with a distinct 90s twist. Slogans, reflective accessories, sporty jerseys, eye-catching leggings and big hair stormed the runway with bright smiles and attitude.

I took a host of photos from both the Amore & Sorvete and Poppy Lissiman Addition runways, you can find them here
