Last week I attended the Central Institute of Technology Fashion and Textile Graduation Show.
Hosted in
the amazing Winthrop Hall on the beautiful UWA campus, the fashion set mingled
with students, eager to see the latest designer collections.
The 16 graduates
presented hugely detailed pieces, which combined unique textiles, with
particular focus on exceptional construction.

I
particularly loved the attention to detail paid to the back of all garments. I
know that sounds obvious, but quite often garments have a lot of focus on the
front, with little follow through to the back. I remember reading
a quote from Johnny Depp once, who said, upon seeing the back of Vanessa
Paradis, he thought to himself, "THAT is the woman for me". There is
something so important about a garment being consistent, not necessarily in
pattern, but in terms of not just being 'there'.

After the
runway show, guests were invited to take a look at the garments and textiles up
close. I remember thinking, "Wow, that looks like paint!" about one
piece, and later found how amazing that piece was up close. The texture of
paint, in a luminous white... some of these designs were just dreamy. Actually a lot of the pieces I loved where white... I think I see a pattern here.
I foolishly
ran out of the house after a busy day without a camera, so all photos come via
Laura of
ethereal reality (formally Peanut Moonbeam Knickers). Thank you! xx
Congratulations to all of the graduates.
