This weekend the Fringe World Festival kicked off in Perth. Running until the 24th of February, the festival one of 200+ Fringe festivals around the world, is a tiny slice of an entertainment smorgasbord.
Whether you are into Cabaret, Comedy, Circus, Dance, Visual Arts, Music, Dance, Film or Theatre, the Fringe will keep you entertained. Open for all to take part, it encourages the community to get out and explore, without damaging their pockets too deeply. I often hear people remark that going to the beach, zoo or the movies are the only entertainment options in Perth. No matter where you are in the world, I believe in finding things to do. The Fringe World Festival is a month of such options. Fresh, engaging and exciting, go explore and find something new, there is something for everyone. While a number of the shows I am keen to see are on after I leave Perth, I will list my picks here in the hope that you go for me.

Cabaret:
Ali McGregors Alchemy
Candice McQueen: Nasty!

Circus:
Tom Flannagan Kaput

Comedy:
Morgan and West: Time Travelling Magicians
Testaclese & ye Sack of Rome by Sound and Fury

Dance:
Tap Into Health with Movin' Melvin Brown!

Film:
Bohemia Outdoor Cinema:
Movie Extra Tropfest
Oscar Short Film Nominees

Music:
Soul to Soul (I have a dream) with Movin' Melvin Brown

Theatre/ Performance:
The Mother F**ker With The Hat (Black Swan Theatre Company)
Uta Uber Kool Ja (Army of Love)
The Mermaid Tank (free each night at 6pm and 8pm)
Mechronos (Spare Parts Puppet Theatre)
The Wives of Hemmingway (Side Pony and Weeping Spoon)

Visual Arts:

Shine (Gallery Central)

Find the online program here.
As you can see above, I made it out on Australia Day to explore. It made a great night, as most people were on the river side of town watching the fireworks, leaving a mere handful of Festival goers enjoying the relaxed, quite atmosphere. I also checked out the Night Markets, but will post pics of those separately. If you want to see my post from the 2012 Adelaide Fringe Festival, please take a look here
