Last
weekend I was invited to head backstage to hair and makeup prior to the 2013
StyleAid Event.
StyleAid
is one of the premiere events on the Perth fashion calendar each year. Now into
its 16th year, the event raises funds for the WA Aids Council. The WAAC - a
non-for-profit organization, was founded in 1985 to offer care and support and
promote further prevention of the disease.
The event
celebrates WA's Fashion and Arts culture, with a lengthy runway show featuring
top WA designers and performances by the WA Opera and WA Ballet
Companies.
Backstage
a small army of tool belt wearing hair and makeup artists transformed some 40
to 70 models into several distinctive looks. Each group of models bore a unique
design- and with some groups showing for five different designers, these looks
were also vastly individual.
The mood
was bright, the models stunning, designers excited and backstage crew very
busy.

Makeup artists wielded MAC as hairstylists sculpted signature looks via Kevin Murphy, and L'Oréal Paris.
Victory rolls and low-slung sleek pony tails teamed both swimwear and evening gowns to perfection.
Soft, voluminous curls, pinned at the crown accommodated headpieces, beanies, face-masks and more.
Bare peaches and cream skin embodied fresh faces, as long haired models were transformed into tinker bell like side fringes- with hair twisted at its base, laced into a twist to the crown (not a bobby pin in sight!) and trained across the forehead. The gorgeous Jessi (pictured right in the last image) whose naturally long curls were whipped out of sight into what she deemed 'a Bieber boyish do'. This look- teamed with forgiving, loose garments created a relaxed, natural look ready for Spring/ Summer.
Vivienne Westwood for Dilettante inspired a quirky, theatrical design. Ghostly white faces, enhanced with faux moustaches and cheeky cleavage definition blurred the lines between the sexes. While men were painted with a more feminine metallic gold cheekbone, faux brow and soft blue and yellow eye shadows. Oversized crowns, glitter helmets and bee-hived coifs created a statement look crucial to a Westwood runway. Westwood's British sense of humour, playfulness and social commentary an evident theme down to the last detail.
