Two Ways To Wear: Spots (Part Two)

This time around I paired my spotted wrap top with a mid-length pleated skirt for a feminine and elegant look (which is also pretty fun to swoosh around in). While I feel like this look is something I would wear happily wandering up to the corner of the Boulevard Saint-Germain and the Rue St. Benoit for a coffee at Cafe de Flore, I can swap Paris for Perth and dream, right? With a beautiful view of the river and the city, surrounded by green lawns and gardens, it is not so tough.

You have seen me in this skirt before, I love it, the length is longer than my 'normal' choice, but it feels a little different and ladylike. I have also spotted a bunch of stylish women in street style photos from Paris Fashion Week in similar long skirts, so it's nice to know I am not far off the mark. Thinking about it I should probably do a little fashion week street style inspiration post. I know those photos are everywhere, but, I never get tired of looking at them. I own a few hats, you can see I love them. No surprises from a Millinery graduate! The price and quality of the Lack of Color hats is really impressive, and the owners are lovely. Oh, I forgot to say last time that this shirt also comes in a really beautiful check print, I must admit I was sad that the store I went to had sold out of my size.

Capsule Wardrobe Vol 2.0

Continuing on in my Capsule Wardrobe series... last time I talked Casual, Work and Cocktails, read it here.

EVERY DAY
Jeans and a t-shirt, simple, comfortable and accessible.
Anyone can wear this, and should feel free to.
I probably wear these boots too much but I love them. I twisted my ankle the other week, and have only attempted heels once since, these semi heel boots have been saving me. They are loose, a good heel height and great quality.
Truth be told, my love of rock music, is something I tend to want to share with the world. I never know who any pop stars are, it takes a long time for me to work out who the big artists are (more than a year before I worked out who Lady gaga was- not kidding). Rock though- I am all about that.

MEETINGS
I have worn a variation of this to work, then to fashion events, and meetings. It is a good outfit when you have to go from one thing to another without time to change.
I love a pencil skirt, and pairing it with grey marle and an interesting hem line? Love. I like that I can throw this together with a white or black shirt, blazer, or a block colour for something different. I know grey is a bit of a nothing colour, (as talked about here) but it goes well with everything, so any piece of clothing in grey is good in my books.
Neoprene is not for everyone, but personally, I can't get enough.
For some reason I do like to wear pink, (despite what Karl says), it makes a nice change.
 This Vivienne Westwood bag I have had for YEARS, it fits a lot in, the plaid somehow manages to work with a lot of outfits- I particularly enjoy when it clashes with the rest of the look (to an extent- I won't pair it with yellow). I talked about these heels last time- prepare to see the same items a few times, capsule wardrobe and all.

WINTER

So it does get cold here, and this teal coat has been my favourite winter coat for years. I spotted this one in Madison magazine then hunted it down from Sportsgirl of all places, back in 2008. Teal is a beautiful colour, in small doses. I am a sucker for military inspired coats, this one fits like a glove and keeps me warm.
These Italian wool leggings are warm, feel beautiful, and tick a few sporty boxes.
Pairing them with an oversized shirt, or this lace top makes it feel less like I am wearing leggings as pants. :)

Baroque

Winter appears to have hit us in Adelaide, and this for me means I can finally be able to wear this amazing coat. I picked this up at the Shakuhachi clearance pop up store during the height of summer in Perth. (Ahuh). 

Needless to say, I hadn't yet had much cause to wear it. Until now! 

Paired with boyfriend jeans, an oversized tee, heels and this incredible necklace. Too easy.
I am very happy with this quilted suede clutch, it is so great for the price. I will be using it for a lot of events, the wrist strap is a must when attempting to take photos, hold a wine glass and your iPhone all at once. Always praying I will not drop anything.

Since Adelaide currently has no train service, these old train track beds are a great spot, the pebbles are beautiful. Although I am not sure how far we would have gotten along them without being yelled at.
Fluoro bunting really is the lowest form of security.

Morning Glory

Wearing: Oasis dress via ASOS, ASOS Suede Quilted Clutch, Sportsgirl Cage Heels similar here, Merrin & Gussy Carnivale Collar and Jungle Critters Ring. 

There is something about a vertical garden; a wall of flowers or foliage. It can be overgrown creeping vines, planted sculpturally or just simply peppered with stunning flowers. I spot them and have a little moment of harmony. The best I have seen was in 2011 outside of the National Gallery in London which was huge and sculpted like Van Gogh's 'A Wheat field with Cypresses' painting. I regret that I never took a photo of that, but I did stare at it and soak it all for a while. :) 

Driving around with Ben over the weekend, I spotted this wall and we circled around the block to stop and snap away. I love Morning Glory, it is so pretty. While Ben insists that it is his brother who takes the best shots, I think he does very well himself, and that camera is magic. 

I have a bunch of 'one item two ways' posts to do for you. I seem to spot a trend to only 'wear a thing once and then never speak of it again', particularly among some bloggers, which when you love a piece is super sad. I do it, once a dress has been photographed, I often feel like it is 'done' and as such let it hang sadly in my wardrobe. Some items call for a time and a place- often while in a change room I over hear women are looking for a dress to wear to a wedding, christening, engagement party etc. Some how I only ever seem to buy dresses to wear, just because. (Although I rely on this, so when I do happen to have an occasion, I tend not to think about what to wear till the night before, and often panic, changing several times, and run late. I can get away with it at times, but I hate that flustered or downright stupid self induced panic feeling). 

So here is a stripe t-shirt dress worn with a beaded collar, black heels and clutch. I bought this dress thinking that it will work worn with tights over winter and under a coat, worn to work or casually with flats or sandals, or dressed up. A t-shirt dress is a really good staple. I think they are comfortable, easy, can be shaped with a belt, short or long jacket, can be dressed up or down and look elegant or casual.

Make-up Free Morning

 







This morning, feeling a little overwhelmed with the mess I have made in my room (after a long week it looks like I have had some sort of wardrobe explosion) I decided to pull out a few pieces and work out what I am going to do with them. So while enjoying a great coffee and amazing music care of Bob Dylan, I played dress ups.

I think my years almost falling head first into my giant dress up box have never ended. I some times went to other kids houses to play, and JUST DID NOT UNDERSTAND when they told me they did not have a dress up box. WHAT?! When I heard that, my heart would sink. I mean, what on earth did they do without one? How on earth did they ever play 'princesses' or 'warriors' or 'alice' or 'peter pan'?

I love sequins, so I was very happy to find this gorgeous mirrored, sequined, beaded jacket at Sportsgirl. I have a beautiful mirrored cotton dress from India, which Mum put in my dress up box as a kid. She'd been given it from a friend in the 70s and I wear it all the time.

Sigh, I better go clean up my mess. xx
