Check In
As you can see from my flatlay here, I have recently gotten into Women's Fitness Magazine. There is a lot in each issue, from food to fitness and well-being. I think there are a number of similar magazines on the market, but this reads as modern and not too 'over fifty'. (Sorry guys!)
Also pictured in this flatlay of sorts is my fave new perfume, Kikki-K 2014 diary, Missoni home towel, Ecoya Christmas soy candle and Green Smoothie Co personalized sachets.

Glorious kind and always on time like pearls on a string

Like a magpie, I have a little collection of shiny things. I promised when I moved from Perth back to Adelaide to take some photos of my room for my friend. I didn't remember to do so until now, so Gen, this one is for you.
A few of my favorite things both old and new- Vintage glassware and brooches, alongside Mimco, Palas and Marc Jacobs pieces I collect.
Driving past a garage sale on the way to the beach the other day I saw the perfect chest of drawers, pulled over and picked that up for a mere $5. Score! This means my dressing table will need a new home though, anyone want a vintage dressing table?!
There is a pic of me taken by a friend of mine a few years ago in this room as well. Her flickr site has a lot of her amazing photos.

Although, really I preferred my old room which was big, old and in need of renovating. Somehow it was so much more my style than a modern home. So in honor of that, the last pic of from that room. Gen, this now means you owe me pics from your house in Busselton!!!

Santa Rosa Fire!

Super housemates / heroines Jenelle and Chloe adventures!
This is a story of fire. And the way it can make you laugh, then have nightmares.
As Chloe and I sat in our living room watching a Nancy Meyers film, our youngest (housemate) Caleb, who is teaching himself to cook, yells out “Guys, I have a bit of a fire!”
And sure enough, he did. Despite his insistence that he “followed the recipe”, the pot he had heated (for a good fifteen minutes) half a litre or more of oil in to deep fry his chips was ablaze, and soon our kitchen looked to be the same. The house, we observed as we began to choke, was absorbed by a thick cloud of heavy smoke. This did not look good for our heroines.
As I attempted to find a fire extinguisher, (which turns out we don’t have) Chloe rang her parents for advice and Caleb, was busy being Caleb. (Whom we love). To stop the flames licking and slightly melting the cupboards above the stove, we had to stop it. We sent Caleb off to the nearest houses for a fire extinguisher, and covered the pot with the lid. It emitted smoke for a while, and when Caleb returned in vain (he had tried two houses, both of which were empty of owners and didn’t notice the families playing in the front yards across the street), we picked up the pot with holders and carried it outside. From there Caleb did the honours of hosing it off. A meter thick steam cloud ‘whooshed’ above in spectacular but never to be repeated fashion.
Leaving the doors and windows open, the three of us, still coughing up smoke left to lie in the driveway and breathe again. I guess it was really not helpful for Caleb that Chloe and I to broke into hysteric laughter, but well to be honest, that is what happened next. Rolling on the driveway as the day faded, our lungs recovered, Caleb hung his head in shame, and Chloe and I reminisced over all of the crazy things that had happened in our time living together. So far, this was our first fire. Somehow Caleb just didn’t find this as funny as we did.
The nightmares part? Well that came later that night as I slept. Yellowy-orange flames overtaking the kitchen, spreading into the house, and no fire extinguisher to be found.

From midday 30th of March 2010

Sun pour’s through the white lace curtains as they move with the breeze.
Foreign music is played, filling the space with a relaxed atmosphere, the comfort of language, and the unknown meaning of the songs.
The smell of chai wafts from the warm teacup, steam drifting upward.
A caramel cookie sits on a notebook in temptation.
An open script lies alongside eager to be extracted, scribbled on and highlighted. The day is not young, and not old.
The carpet underfoot could do with a vacuum, but the floorboards are swept and shining.
The soft knowledge of a happy day makes my heart race, an impulse after a secret thought or memory.
A half smile spreads and takes over my face, encouraging said heart flip flop behaviour.
The telephone is muffled, far away enough to be ignored, the threat of interruption unlikely.
A stool sits reminding me to fix it, I make a mental note to locate a flat head and screw it down later.
Somehow I know I will “forget” to get around to this, and secretly hope some handy person will magically do it for me someday.
This fantasy is one that will never be realised, but is a small comfort all the same.
A well-stocked fridge and cupboard promotes knowledge of an enjoyable lunch ahead.
Being alone my mind decides to wander and I let it, just for now.
A native flower leans in a small vase, having been preserved for some months, a new member of the family.
A milky-white cardboard cow stands rigidly in the kitchen, eager to cause an unexpected chuckle.
Soft chocolate coloured curls cloud my face and I dream up a beautiful garment to wear them with.
Friends frozen in photographs smile at me from the walls, reminding me where I come from, and who I live, and love, for.
In my private world I am happily safe and at peace.
